Description: This is an annual in my zone 6 garden. Ruellia blooms mid-summer to fall with 2 inch bluish/purple petunia-like flowers with dark green foliage. New flowers bloom each day. The dark stems are very pretty on this plant. Ruellia can be planted by waters edge, as it likes moist soil. I plant Ruellia each year in a full sun area that bakes all day by my house. I give this plant very little additional water, and the soil is very well draining. It thrives all summer and will get about 24" wide by summers end. Lovely plant and not common in my area.
